Since your entryway is the first thing guests will see when visiting your home, why not make things easy on yourself by selecting a design that will impress for years to come? The tips listed below will help you put together a classically appealing entryway that requires minimal upkeep and redesigning in the future.

Eye-Catching Mirrors

Whether you've got a small or large entryway, it’s definitely worth spending a little money and time to make it seem dazzling. Mirrors are well-suited accessories for foyers and entryways, as they can brighten up an interior space by reflecting light and creating the impression that the area is much larger than it actually is.

If you happen to have several windows that allow plenty of light to shine into your entryway, the best way to reap the benefits of that sunlight is to put in a full-size mirror. A big mirror on your foyer wall just above an antique table or bench is another design that is simple, looks fabulous, and never goes out of style.

Cordial Closets

Having a closet behind your entryway door is both appealing and practical. If you have enough room for even a tiny closet in this area of your home, it’s worthwhile to have a place to store shoes and coats. It will help keep your entryway neat and free of tripping hazards. You can work with your builder to construct a small closet in your entryway, or you can buy pre-constructed wall cabinets and have them installed.

Consider A Classic Front Door

Classic (or "traditional") entryway doors have adorned homes for hundreds of years and will no doubt continue to do so. With their endearing and iconic designs, classic front doors will imbue any entryway with a quality that makes it more welcoming. These wooden doors bring to mind a nostalgic sense of “returning home” which makes them very popular choices to give your entryway a timeless charm.

Timeless Lighting

Lighting has a way of setting the tone in your home. Classic style light fixtures serve as stunning centrepieces at the entry of any house, both inside and outside. On the inside of your entryway, sconce lamps with bronze or pewter bases never go out of fashion. Crystal chandeliers are beautiful and complement any home's decor. Above the exterior of your entryway, a hanging cast iron pendant light can serve as a stylish and welcoming beacon for visitors and family members.

Keep It Neutral

Your entryway is an intermediary area with a number of sharp angles, like door edges, door knobs, and steps. So pairing a bold colour scheme with all of these sharp cuts can tire the eyes, whereas neutral and lighter shades help blend them in more.

For large entryways in particular, you don't want to overwhelm the area with too much colour. Neutral colours don't go out of style or get tiresome like more vivid shades and they highlight any art, photos, or furniture you have in your entryway instead of drowning them out.

Fabulous Flooring

The right flooring for an entryway usually also has a neutral hue, especially if you're trying to create a look that will remain stylish over time. Some excellent neutral-toned hardwood materials are hard maple, yellow birch, and French oak.

Marble tile is another material you can use in this space to impress year after year. If you have the funds to indulge in just one element of your entryway, marble tile for the flooring really is a wonderful investment. Another option with timeless appeal is ceramic flooring, which comes in a variety of neutral tones as well.

When it comes to designing your entryway, you have to harmonize trending styles with timeless designs that will last. Your best bet to ensure the longevity of your home's entranceway is to use classic styles for aspects of the design that are hard to change, and include small modern accents that are easy to upgrade.
