13 Boxing Day Shopping Survival Tips Featured ImageDo you love to take advantage of the great deals in the stores around Boxing Day? If so, you’re not alone. Many other people like the challenge of finding popular items at the best possible prices, which can make things a little stressful. If you’re going to venture out into the crowds of Boxing Day shoppers this year, then keep these survival tips in mind.

1. Make a List Ahead of Time

Making a list before you go out is one of the easiest ways to enjoy a smooth shopping excursion and stick to your budget. If you're doing some shopping for others, have them text you some alternative deals they wouldn't mind getting if the main thing they want has sold out.

2. Research Deals Online Before Visiting the Shops

Sit down at your computer before your shopping trip and research the items on your list. That way, you can find out about any sales happening on the things you want to buy. Not all Boxing Day sales are the same, so you may see a special offer or two that you'll want to take advantage of.

Lugging around plastic or paper shopping bags of various sizes can really slow you down. This year try gathering a couple reusable shopping bags (with handles) from around your house to take along with you so you have somewhere to put your purchases. Not only is this more convenient, it's also less wasteful as you won't have to throw away a lot of plastic bags once you get home.

4. Make a Budget Before Leaving Home

This survival tip can really help you during the holiday season and beyond. Once you make your wish list, estimate what each item will cost to see if the total falls within the amount you want to spend. If the estimation goes over the total amount of money you want to spend, decide on the deals you don't want to miss out on and go for those.

5. Wear Comfortable Shoes

Sneakers, loafers or flats are great for wearing during a Boxing Day shopping trip. The wooden or tile floors in department stores can be hard on your feet after a while. You'll want to be wearing lightweight shoes with adequate support.

6. Stay Clear of the Changing Room

There are usually crowds around the changing room and it can lengthen your shopping trip. Instead, try items on at home and return them if necessary.

7. Pack Some Protein-Filled Snacks

If you plan to shop for several hours, you can save time by not stopping for a full lunch. Instead, carry some sandwich bags full of protein-filled snacks in your purse or bag. Or, keep these snacks in your car so you can munch on a few before heading into the next store.

8. Wear Lightweight Clothing

It may be cold outside, but it’s best to wear lightweight clothing on the day of your shopping trip. All of the people moving around in the stores can make the atmosphere uncomfortably hot, so you'll want to be prepared for that.

Long lines and crowds on a Boxing Day shopping trip can be stressful. But having a friend with you can make the time pass a lot quicker. Plus, you can split up and hunt for bargains to save time.

10. Make a Plan to Move Through a Store in a Logical Way

If you’re familiar with the layout of the stores you’re going to visit, make a plan of where to start shopping in the store. This will help you avoid moving from one end of the store to the other and back again. Look at the items you plan to get there and map out the most logical shopping route through the store.

11. Arrive Early

You have a better chance of getting a gift that’s a popular item if you arrive at the store early. Some stores order limited quantities of certain items so if you know you’re looking something that's in demand, it’s best to start out early.

12. Check for Online Coupons

There are many websites specializing in getting you the best deals happening in particular stores. It’s definitely worth your time to look for any coupons or offers on these websites before visiting a store. Many stores have their own apps now which makes it even easier to take advantage of special deals and sales.

13. Jam Out Down the Aisles

Listening to music can help you stay in the right state of mind while you shop. So, take along your earbuds, listen to some of your favourite tunes and chill out as you browse the store for deals!

Browsing all the Boxing Day bargains doesn't have to be a chore. Follow some of these simple tips and you'll be on your way to a stress-free shopping day!
